Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
955 AM PDT Thu Mar 26 2026

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Anomalous, early-season heat will continue through early next week.

* A pattern shift should bring near normal temperatures by the
  middle of next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Wednesday.

Once again, all climate sites across the forecast area reported
daily record high temperatures yesterday. Not only did Las Vegas
achieve a new longest streak of record high temperatures (eight
days: March 18-25, 2026), but a monthly record high temperature for
March was set with a high of 98 degrees. A weak and compact area of
low pressure will move through the area along the wider ridging
pattern today, which will bring high cloud cover and decrease
temperatures by a few degrees. Las Vegas has a 50 percent
probability of reaching 93 degrees, the daily high temperature
record for March 26. The number of consecutive daily high
temperature records for Las Vegas would rise to nine if this occurs.
The upper level ridge will remain in place and above normal
temperatures persist through the weekend, breaking even more daily
temperature records. See the CLIMATE section for more details.

Relief from the heat appears on the horizon as an upper level trough
approaches the Pacific Coast midweek next week. Highs should return
to near seasonal normals, but some uncertainty remains regarding the
exact timing and depth of the trough.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Winds
are expected to maintain a generally light northeast component
through the afternoon with speeds less than 8 knots into the early
evening before turning back to the southwest around sunset. There
are indications that we will see a push of northeast winds between
05-07Z this evening arriving into the Las Vegas Valley. There is
still disagreement if the northeast push makes it all the way to
Harry Reid. If winds do develop, speeds of 10 to 13 knots would be
possible along with some brief higher gusts overnight. VFR
conditions will prevail through Friday, with only a few high clouds
with bases AOA 20kft AGL.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package... Winds will remain light
in most areas into this evening, with speeds generally 12 knots or
less into Friday morning. VFR conditions will prevail through the
TAF period, with only a few SCT to BKN clouds across the Sierra and
southern Nevada expected today.
